Early Canadian Postage Stamp from 1859
Posted by admin on August 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment
The first Canadian postage stamp, designed by Sir Sandford Fleming, was a 3d (threepenny) beaver, showing a beaver in an oval frame. It was also the first official postage stamp anywhere in the world to depict an animal. In 1858, Canadian stamps became perforated. The 5-cent beaver stamp shown here was issued in 1859.
